Hi, I’m Sandra Fernandez.
I believe stories matter because stories connect people.
For nearly three decades, I’ve worked in communications, public relations, media, and community engagement. I’ve helped organizations find their voice, strengthen their message, and build relationships with the people they serve.
But titles only tell part of the story.
At heart, I’m a storyteller, a curious learner, a tech enthusiast, a book lover, and someone who genuinely believes that people and communities become stronger when we share our experiences with one another.
Today, Story Zone Media has grown beyond a traditional agency. It has become a space for storytelling, community connection, education, and creative projects that bring people together.
My Journey
My career has taken me through government, nonprofits, higher education, public service, and agency work.
Along the way I have:
- Worked with English- and Spanish-language media
- Led communications for one of the nation’s most diverse library systems
- Helped organizations connect with multicultural audiences
- Co-founded and helped grow an agency
- Spoken at conferences and workshops
- Built platforms and projects focused on community stories
Every chapter taught me something important:
- Clear communication changes things.
- Stories build trust.
- People remember how you made them feel.
Why Storytelling Matters
Storytelling isn’t simply content.
It’s how we connect.
It’s how we help people feel seen.
It’s how ideas become action.
The best stories help people understand who you are, why your work matters, and how they fit into the journey.
That belief drives everything I create.
Projects Close to My Heart
Some of my favorite work lives at the intersection of storytelling, communication, and community. These projects have evolved over the years, but they all share one goal: helping people connect through stories.
Story Zone Media began as a public relations and communications agency focused on helping organizations connect with audiences through strategic and culturally relevant storytelling.
Today, Story Zone Media has evolved into a broader storytelling and communications platform focused on community, education, creator projects, and meaningful conversations. It serves as the home for ideas, workshops, content, and projects designed to inform, connect, and inspire.
Hispanic Houston
A community platform highlighting stories, events, culture, and resources for and about Houston’s Hispanic community.
Spotlight Houston
A podcast and storytelling project featuring the people, places, and ideas shaping Houston.
Social Media Day Houston
An annual event bringing together creators, business owners, nonprofit leaders, communicators, and digital professionals for a day of learning, conversation, and community. It is a space for sharing ideas, building connections, and helping people use communication and storytelling more intentionally.

My word for 2026 is Courage.
For me, courage means continuing to move forward, creating with purpose, showing up authentically, and trusting the next chapter even when the path isn’t fully clear.
